When I was treated to a trip in Disney World, Orlando, many years ago, I was a sullen teenager who couldn’t wait to get back home so that I could drown in solitude inside my dismal room. Then, as I entered the “happiest place on Earth”, I waited to see if I felt if only a trickle of joy flooding my heart. … Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
As the rest of my family happily walked on, drinking in the sights and sounds of Disney World, I mumbled to them about getting a drink. I sidled on to a bench where I shared the seat with a beautiful young woman. She had long, flowing tresses, which was exactly the color of rust — but in a good way. She turned to me and smiled, asking why I looked so glum. I told her that I was dragged here, and she raised one of her eye brows in the prettiest way — and I fell in love with her right there and then. She beckoned me to follow her, and I did, even though I knew I wasn’t supposed to follow a stranger anywhere.
It turns out she was a Disney Princess! She was Ariel the Little Mermaid, and she brought me to the Staff Access Only area and introduced me to her friends, showing me the parade props and costumes. I was enthralled and definitely enjoying every minute of it.
Finally she brought me back to where we met on the bench. I thanked her for a great time, and asked if I could see her again. She told me to look out for her in the parade. Then she disappeared and “swam” away gracefully into the midst of the crowd, and was gone.
Later on at the parade, the Little Mermaid turned out to be someone else. Did I dreamed that I met the lovely stranger who cheered me up, or was she really the happy Litte Mermaid?
Anyway I am getting some discount Disney tickets at OrlandoFunTickets.com and I’ll be back at Disney World, searching for an elusive Little Mermaid
